Using different social networks to make contacts and send traffic to your website is a good idea, but some people take it a little to far. I check my facebook account maybe 3 times a day regardless of when I check my account the same guy is blasting the same message over and over..
To be honest with you it interested me the first time I seen it but he recycles his message about 20 times a day.. It’s a annoying to see and my impression of him is he is annoying. He managed to get my attention but not in a way that I would want to learn more about him other than in my mind I labeled him a spammer. The morale of the story is don’t use social networks to spam your business opportunity.
There are many creative ways to get traffic to your website, solving problems is one way. It doesn’t matter what kinda business you are doing online. If you can help someone solve their problem they will be more likely to wanna know more about you and what you do.

The idea here is you wanna make friends that will ultimately take interest in what you are doing because you are a interesting person and you are sharing valuable content.
Another Social Networking Tool I use is Twitter
You just have to look online to see how much information is online about using Twitter as a marketing tool. While on Facebook I believe less is more on Twitter you need to more than likely tweet more than you think you do.
I use to tweet maybe once a day, I never really got that many hits on anything. After I hooked up twitter up to my blog account and I increased my tweeting to around 10 times a day I noticed a pretty big spike in hits to my website.
So don’t be afraid to tweet more frequently through out the day and evening. Some people will tell you that is okay to even tweet 20 times a day. It makes sense if you have more than 3000 people in your twitter account messages go by really fast… So there is a good chance people aren’t seeing your message if you only tweeting say 2 or 3 times a day…
On Twitter and Facebook it is okay to promote what you are doing, but spend more time letting people know about you than your business and you shouldn’t run into any problems.
Social networking is certainly a good way to get traffic , but don’t abuse it by being labeled a spammer.
